WORKSHOPS ROUND 2

A. CAREER IN DANCE // Breaking out of the monoculture
Christiaan de Vries vz // Dylan Newcombe // Beppie Blankert // Anne Affourtit
Dancers often function within their own universe. Opening up career options requires an active attitude and outward orientation. How can you broaden your horizon? How can you set up your network and support system and use it effectively?
Workshop

B. DANCE CULTURE // Multidisciplinary cooperation
Cees Vervoorn // Gaby Allard, vz // Boni Rietveld
An orthopedic surgeon, a physiologist, a sports physician, two physiotherapists and an artistic director and his modern dance company as a test group were invited to work together in a project researching the balance between workload and overload for professional dancers. How to work together to develop and introduce new training methods for dancers. The challenge within: channeling the enormous variety in expertise from all these different disciplines with their own demands, questions, expectations and hang ups into learning environment within the actual daily practice of the dancer's routines.
Lecture - Discussion

C. EDUCATION // Dance Training revised, Physical // Conditioning in Dance
Matthew Wyon, vz // Yiannis Koutedakis
At professional level, dancers must be experts in the aesthetic and technical side of their art, psychologically prepared to handle the stress of critical situations and free from injury. They must also bephysically 'fit'. What aspects of fitness components are still to be introduced in the dance training? A reference to different agegroups will be made.
Lecture - Discussion

D. MANAGEMENT // How to set up a health and safety plan?
Pauline Beran, vz // Anke van Es // Astrid van Schaik
How can a health and safety plan be conceived and implemented as a tool for achieving optimal working conditions? What consequences does this have for organizational and financial aspects? The Dutch model will be clarified.
Lecture - Discussion

E. PRACTICAL TRAINING
Mental Preparation in Performing Situations // Think it, feel it, do it // Why is it that, despite long hours of careful practice, the eventual performance can be a disappointment? Where do the problems come from that prevent dancers exploiting their potential? This workshop offers procedures and skills to help dancers produce the performance of a lifetime-everytime (well almost!). To achieve this, the workshop considers the power of 'nerves' and excess expectations for disrupting performance. Delegates will then work to develop practice and pre-performance routines, personalised to individual needs, which counter these challenges while also setting up the mental set for a perfect execution.
